for bright plumage
and a taunting squawk
Listen to him squabble and kvetch
with a clutch of his mates
to the derision of disapproving crows
See him flutter in a blur of blue
to alight self-importantly
on a prominent perch
Though he can cackle and curse
or resemble a flower in flight
no creature takes him seriously
except the winsome early worm.
