Through the cathedral's stucco walls
protrude the doric capitals
and fluted pillars
of Athena
Although baroque facade
may not commend
the mystery
of Medieval nave
twenty centuries of stone
argue in makeshift profusion
that when deities die
their awe lives on
in updated styles of allusion.
